How do I offer a trial and full price option on a product?

You may run a session or event where you offer the option to pay a one-off fee for a trial session, or a monthly renewing fee to enroll onto the full schedule. This article covers the steps to set this up in LoveAdmin

Creating the product Group

Steps:

  1. Navigate to Home > Settings > Products
  2. Click 'Add Product' in the top-right
  3. Select 'Product Group'
  4. Select the type of product group, for example; Class
  5. Name the group
This is what your customers will see, for example; 'Ages 9-11 Gymnastics'
  6. Click '+Add new product group'
  7. Open the 'Details' tab in the product group
  8. Tick the box labelled 'Treat this group as a product?'
  9. Click 'Save'

Creating the sub-products

Once you have created the product group, you'll need to add your 'Trial' and 'Monthly' billing options.

These will be added as 'Products' within the product group you have just created.

Steps:

  1. Click the 'Add product' button in the top-right of the Settings > Products page
  2. Select 'Product'
  3. Choose the same product type as the group you have created
  4. Name the Product 'Monthly'
  5. In the 'add to existing product group' dropdown, select the product group you made earlier
  6. Choose the Monthly price
This will depend on how you are pricing, for example price per session, fixed price for a whole month etc.
  7. Choose a 'purchase option'
The most common option here for monthly billed products is 'same day of week, same time'
  8. Click '+Add new product group'
  9. Follow these steps to add a second product named 'Trial'

Note: The trial price is typically set per 'session', as trials are almost always booked on a pay-as-you-go basis.

The purchase option for trials is typically set as 'any day, any time'

At this stage, your product setup should look something like this:

After creating your product group and sub-products, the next step is to complete the product settings.

Note: Certain settings, including product billing, must be applied separately for the 'Monthly' and 'Trial' products. Meanwhile, other settingsβ€”such as capacity and schedulesβ€”should be applied at the 'product group' level.

Product Settings

There are a number of product settings to choose from at the Product Group level, so be sure to click into each and make sure they are completed, you will see an alert (see below) if there are missing settings in the section:

Tip: Make sure to add in your 'Trial' settings, which allow you to determine how many trials are allowed per person, and more.

Adding a schedule

With this type of product setup, the schedule(s) will need to be built at the 'Product Group' level - this is so that both trialists and renewing members are on the same attendance register.

Steps:

  1. Click on the product group (the green folder)
  2. Select the 'Schedules' tab along the top
  3. Click 'Add Schedule'
  4. Add the schedule(s)

  • Access your shop to verify that the product displays correctly for your customers and go through the checkout process for both the 'Trial' and 'Monthly' options, up until the payment stage

What your customers will see

When your customers go into your shop, they will see the trial and monthly purchase options as shown below:

Taking attendance

When you go into your Timetable and click into a session that allows trial and monthly attendees, they will appear on the same register.

Trialists will have a trial marker in the 'Quick' View:

And 'Yes' in the Trial column in the 'Advanced' view:
